This influential German science-fiction film presents a highly stylized futuristic city where a beautiful and cultured utopia exists above a bleak underworld. In this futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a saviour to mediate their differences. Metropolis is famous for its sumptuous Art Deco style and groundbreaking visual effects with clever use of miniatures, mirrors and incredible set design as well as its long-lasting influence on the science fiction genre.
